In case of biological threat it is necessary to establish early warning systems and rapid response capacity to ensure an effective response against damage to public health caused by accidental or deliberate release of biological agents. Establishment of a network of reference laboratories with the capacity building and know-how to diagnose high risk biological agents using validated standard methods would be crucial, to confirm or exclude these threats and implement both public health and management of the patient’s measures.

IB-BIOALERTNET is a project of building Iberian Network of laboratories of biological alert aiming the exchange of information, training, technology transfer, standardization and accreditation of procedures to become an effective tool to respond rapidly and efficiently to biological threats. A major achievement of this project would be to export this working model to other Member States in the future.
