The background of IB-BIOALERTNET is the Spanish Network of Laboratories of Biological Alert (RE-LAB) created in 2009 as a scientific and technical infrastructure for operational support to the National System for Crisis, in order to give an adequate response against bioterrorist threats.
The target groups to which the project focuses are the Iberian laboratories with the capacity to handle high risk biological agents, the State Security Forces (SSF) and the civil society.
The expected results and deliverables are:
- The establishment of the core of the IB-BIOALERTNET.
- The availability of accredited methods and protocols for detection and identification of highly infectious agents and for environmental sampling.
- The transfer of technology for environmental sampling to the SSF.
- The establishment of the map of Iberian laboratories with the capacities to work with high risk biological agents.
